Samsung has quietly removed filters from video mode on One UI 8.5

One UI 8.5 FI

Updating to One UI 8.5 brought several new features to Galaxy devices, but Samsung has reportedly taken away filters from video mode.

While reports are limited at the moment, you can find people complaining about it on Reddit and TikTok. Replies to the linked posts also confirm the same issue.

Samsung removed video filters.

The video linked below represents where the option was formerly located. Now, users claim that filters are missing entirely in video mode, though they’re still present in photo mode.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear whether this is an intentional removal or a bug. The general sentiment is that removing filters and adding extra steps to apply them doesn’t make much sense. People questioned whether Samsung simply relocated the feature, though that doesn’t seem to be the case.

When they were available, video filters were restricted to 1080p, and they didn’t support 4K. Now, they’re missing in 1080p as well.

People were complaining about Samsung aggressively removing features in general; all configurations, such as FHD/30FPS, also reportedly don’t have the feature.

Reddit comments.

A few people who occasionally record videos with the Black and White filter were rather frustrated about losing the feature. Breeze mode, which makes colors look more natural during video shooting, is also gone now.

I’ve browsed through the comments for any potential workarounds and found two that could assist. One, you can directly change the filter in the Video Edit options after taking the video. However, some users report that this may result in compression of the video.

Two, you can change the filter from the regular photo mode, and then long-press the capture button to enter video capture mode. While this method adds extra steps, it does work.

For now, we’d recommend reporting the issue directly to Samsung through the Samsung Members app. If there’s sufficient negative pushback, the company might consider adding the option back.

This isn’t the only issue with One UI 8.5. We’ve highlighted a number of issues, such as AT&T users facing an issue with video calls through the phone app and the backlash against the new narrow Quick Panel on the Z Fold 7.

So Samsung clearly has a lot of fixing to do.
