Mozilla has published an official roadmap for Firefox that gives users a glimpse into features that the team is actively developing for desktop and mobile versions.
Mozilla announced the roadmap on its official blog on June 16, 2026. The Firefox team also posted about it on the r/firefox subreddit, where they shared key highlights and an image of the roadmap.
In Firefox 152, which is rolling out now, users get Tab Groups on Android. This feature lets people organize related tabs into named and colored groups, making it easier to manage many open tabs on mobile. Support for iOS will arrive later.
The update also adds a redesigned settings page that makes controls easier to find. Furthermore, a new “Blocked Tracker” widget shows how many trackers Firefox has stopped over time.
For the future, the roadmap mentions customizable keyboard shortcuts and PDF editing improvements (splitting, merging, and reorganizing documents directly inside the browser).
Mozilla also plans to add “Multi-Account Container,” which is like dedicated browser spaces. It separates online activity (like Work and Personal) directly within Firefox without needing third-party extensions. Firefox also plans to bring its free built-in VPN to smartphones.
The company is introducing some new AI features as well. One: Quick Answers. It lets users ask questions using voice and receive AI-generated responses (with sources). Two: Smart Window, which is a private AI browsing experience.
Additionally, Power Saving Mode will identify resource-heavy tabs on the mobile app and optimize them to improve battery life.
If you’re interested in trying these features, you can keep an eye out for new Nightly builds. Recent builds have added the ability to hide the Firefox logo from the New Tab page, and we covered that here. It’s worth noting that Nightly is an experimental version of Firefox intended for testing features, so it’s not recommended for daily use.
Finally, Mozilla has also mentioned an upcoming Reddit AMA on June 24 at 12 pm ET (9 am PT). This is presumably to answer questions about the roadmap.
Despite the roadmap looking promising, not everyone at Mozilla is happy with the company’s direction. A veteran developer recently quit the company, citing concerns that Firefox is trying too hard to copy Chrome. We covered that here.
