If you’re a Firefox user, then you have a fresh update waiting for you: v153.0.4. But don’t get too excited, since it only contains one bug fix. Still, it addresses a frustrating issue that could cause the browser to freeze completely when clearing the history or cache in some cases.

A complaint about the issue first popped up around 13 days ago on Mozilla’s bug tracker, where a user put the spotlight on the bug and also shared the steps to reproduce it.

As described, the browser window would become unresponsive, leaving them to open Task Manager and kill the process manually.

The OP described it as: “Screen goes wobbly, sandclock runs, have to kill the process with taskmanager, then, restart FF, cache is empty, restore session.”

Adding to the frustration was the fact that the bug persisted even when trying other means of clearing the cache, including using an extension. Plus, the bug was inconsistent since the browser would work normally for a while before freezing randomly. Other times, the issue popped up every few minutes.

So you can see why this might have been a priority bug to fix. And that could also explain why Mozilla decided to release a patch with just this one fix.

Mozilla also appears to be getting closer to releasing its built-in ad blocker for Firefox on iOS. The support page for the feature has finally become publicly accessible, after previously being indexed but unavailable when we tried opening it.

And then there’s the price tracking feature Mozilla has been working on, which could eventually alert users when the price of a product they’re watching drops.

Firefox 153.0.4 is rolling out through the usual update channels now. There isn’t much else to this release, but if Firefox has been freezing whenever you try to clear your history or cache, you’ll want to grab it.
