Instagram password reset emails arriving without codes or links for some users
Some Instagram users are running into a strange login problem where password reset emails arrive successfully, but without the actual reset code, button, or login link needed to get back into the account.
Over the past few days, I’ve seen multiple reports from users who say Instagram is sending the expected “Sorry to hear you’re having trouble logging into Instagram” email, only for the message to show up mostly empty. The email text tells users they can get right back into their account or reset the password, but the part that should contain the reset link or verification code is missing.
This has left affected users stuck in a loop: they request a reset, Instagram sends the email, the email opens, but there is no code or clickable button to complete the process. Several screenshots shared by users show the same thing: the email looks like an official Instagram/Meta message, but the reset action itself is absent.
One Reddit user trying to recover an old account said they still had access to the email tied to the account, but the reset message did not contain the code at all. They also tried changing the email color, forwarding it to Gmail, highlighting or copying possible hidden text, using mobile and desktop browsers, changing AOL settings, and even checking the raw email code, but still found no reset link inside the message.
Another user reported the same behavior after requesting a password reset several times, saying Instagram’s email did not include a code or clickable button despite trying different devices, three browsers, and desktop mode on mobile. Here’s a screenshot of a sample email shared on Reddit:
This lines up with several other complaints from Instagram users who say they are getting empty reset emails, emails with no code, reset links that do not show up, and password reset emails with no buttons.
Some users initially wondered whether the emails were phishing attempts. That concern is understandable, especially because password reset emails are a common attack route. However, some affected users insist the messages are coming from Instagram’s real email system, with one user noting that the issue is not that the email is fake, but that the actual reset link is missing.
Instagram’s Help Center says password resets can be done using an email address, phone number, or username, and also has separate guidance for cases where reset emails are not received or links do not work. But this specific issue appears slightly different because the email is being delivered, just without the code or link users need.
For now, there does not appear to be an official acknowledgement from Instagram or Meta about this particular missing-code email problem. Naturally, affected users are testing their own workarounds.
One workaround that seems to have helped some users involves starting the reset process from inside the Instagram mobile app instead of the browser. According to one user, requesting a reset in the app may still send the blank email at first, but tapping “Try another way,” then selecting the same email address again can trigger a different format of email that actually includes a working verification code.
Another user added that if the app is showing the verification screen, it is worth keeping that page open while checking email on another device. In their case, switching away from Instagram caused the code entry page to disappear, so checking the email on a laptop while leaving the phone on the Instagram verification screen helped.
There is also a less direct workaround where one user said they searched for an older Instagram notification email with a working button, such as a post or story notification, and tapped it from a mobile browser. That reportedly opened the Instagram app and logged them back in, although the user noted this did not solve the separate problem of changing the password.
As usual, users should be careful with any password reset email. If you did not request the reset, do not click links blindly. Instagram says password reset emails do not always mean an account has been hacked, and legitimate Instagram emails should come from its official mail domain. The safest route is to open Instagram directly through the app or official website and start the recovery flow there, rather than relying on links from suspicious emails.
For those already locked out, the most promising workaround right now appears to be using the Instagram app, choosing “Try another way,” and requesting the code again through the listed email option. It is not guaranteed, but several users say this triggered a different email format with a visible code.
Until Instagram fixes whatever is causing these incomplete reset emails, affected users may have to keep trying alternate recovery routes through the app. Not ideal, obviously, but at least there is a possible path around the broken email flow.
