Google has just released fresh new versions of Google Chrome on all key platforms: desktop (including Linux, Mac, and Windows), the iOS app, and the Android app. It’s largely stability-focused and includes security improvements, so the releases are feature-light.

Information about the new update was posted officially on the Chrome release tracker. The Git log elaborates on the exact security/stability improvements, and you can view an image of a part of the changelog below.

It’s largely behind-the-scenes maintenance improvements, and not much for user-facing changes. It updates PGO profiles and “Orderfiles,” so that the overall performance is slightly better. There’s also a fix for graphics and stability, and the generic routine updates to third-party libraries such as Skia for graphics, and others for WebGPU.

I’ve checked for this update myself on Android. However, it still shows 150.0.7871.129 for me (dated July 21). The latest version, 150.0.7871.181, is supposed to roll out in the “next few days” on the Play Store, so I’m assuming it’s a batched/staged release. Not everyone will get it simultaneously.

Moving on to the desktop version, all three major platforms received an update (Windows, macOS, and Linux). The latest version for both Linux and Windows is v150.0.7871.181. However, it’s .182 for macOS. While there aren’t any new features, there are some security patches. You can view the security information here. The Chromium log mentions similar non-user-facing improvements.

While Google fixed most security issues internally, two high-severity vulnerabilities in WebAudio were reported by an external researcher (XBOW). These potentially allow attackers to crash Chrome or run malicious code. Other issues such as security trouble with ANGLE graphics, Chromecast, Extensions, Skia, GPU/UI components, etc were also solved.

I’ve checked for this update on macOS, and sure enough, it began updating immediately. You can check for it in ‘About Chrome.’

Finally, the iOS version was also updated. The latest version (151.0.7922.43) is already live on the App Store, and the changelog includes disabling of an accessibility magnification feature by default, improvements to contextual tasks and URL handling, and some internal code changes for better tab rule handling. There are some stability improvements overall.
