Around a week after the previous update, a new version of Brave is now rolling out for the desktop version of the browser. It’s already available to the public, and this version is feature-light, offering a bump in the Chromium version for better security, and it also addresses a favicon bug.
Information about this update was posted officially in the release notes tracker. You can find an image of the changelog below. The latest version of Brave stable is now 1.92.143.
Much like the previous update, the update brings yet another Chromium bump to v150.0.7871.182. Several high-severity loopholes were fixed, related to WebAudio, the graphics system, the JS engine, and more. It includes routine stability and crash fixes, but not much that’s user-facing. Furthermore, Brave Origin also gets the same Chromium update.
Alongside the Chromium bump, the changelog also mentions “Fixed broken favicon.” If you use Brave Wallet (specifically transactions on DeFi sites or NFT marketplaces), the transaction confirmation panel is now more polished. The site icon now appears correctly; the favicon was broken earlier. Since it was broken or missing earlier, it made it harder to quickly confirm which site was requesting the signature. This issue has been addressed.
I’ve checked for this update myself on macOS. Sure enough, it immediately began updating to v1.92.143, and since it’s a rather small update, it finished up instantly.
Interestingly, I have also observed some complaints on Reddit about this version. The macOS version allegedly keeps freezing up and is reportedly not as stable as before. There also seem to be issues with Twitch chat ads. Hopefully, these issues will be addressed in a future patch.
In other Brave news, did you know that the browser has the ability to copy a link without all the tracking behind it? Called “Copy clean link,” the feature is quite helpful. We covered that here.
Additionally, you can enable tree-style tab stacking on Brave stable now, through an experimental feature. If you’re interested in this feature, more on that here.
