Two men have been remanded in custody after Gardaí seized suspected drugs with an estimated value of up to €8.7 million during an investigation in Counties Meath and Louth.
Gareth Ryan, 38, of Drumree, County Meath, and Darren Callaghan, 40, appeared before Trim District Court on August 5, 2026, following a major operation by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB).
The court heard that the men were charged in connection with the alleged possession of controlled drugs for sale or supply following searches carried out as part of an ongoing Garda investigation.
The operation involved coordinated searches at locations across Meath and Louth, where Gardaí recovered suspected cocaine and cannabis. The seized substances have been sent for examination by Forensic Science Ireland as investigators continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged trafficking operation.
The seizure, which Gardaí estimated to be worth between €8.5 million and €8.7 million, represents one of the largest drug recoveries linked to the region in recent years.
The investigation was carried out under Operation Tara, a Garda initiative focused on disrupting organised drug trafficking networks and targeting those involved in the importation, distribution, and supply of illegal drugs across Ireland.
Both men were remanded in custody, with further court proceedings expected as the investigation continues.
