First Galaxy S26 Ultra green line video surfaces, but there’s reason to doubt it [U: Another unit affected]

Update 20/05/26 – 10:32 am (IST): Exactly a month later, we’re now seeing yet another post about a green line appearing on a Galaxy S26 Ultra unit. The device owner shared a picture of their S26 Ultra with the line on the r/samsunggalaxy subreddit.

The image does appear to be legit, though I still scanned it using a couple of AI-detection websites for good measure, and it got flagged as real. Still, these couple of reports seem isolated. Samsung has yet to comment on the incidents.

Original article published on April 20, 2026, follows:

Recently, a video was shared on X, which supposedly showed an S26 Ultra unit with a green line on the display. However, it doesn’t look like everyone’s convinced it’s real.

On the face of it, the video appears legitimate enough. It shows the front and back of the phone, and then turns it off and on to show the green line on the screen. The vertical line appears at the left. Some more posts highlighted how this was (probably) the first S26 Ultra with a green line.

However, why do some people think it’s fake? A reply from Daniel Scuteri on X pointed out some issues with the video. He claims that text being visible through the line implies foul play, because an actual green line would completely mask all the text beneath it. In the shared video, the letters still remain visible even through the line. Furthermore, the severity of the line varies drastically. In some photos, it’s light and thin. It appears a bit darker and thicker in others.

S26 Ultra green line issue fake?

Furthermore, the line also stays on for a split second before the screen turns off. Personally, I am not sure whether this is a reason to discredit the video, but the concerns with the text seem legitimate enough. Daniel doubled down on it, with a Quote Post which claimed the whole thing was “Quite obviously faked.”

After a bit more digging, you can notice that the only content about Samsung from this account is this green line. You can find more posts he’s made about it from various angles here and here.

The first post from the account about this issue claims that he bought the unit a month ago, and the green line popped up a month after the One UI 8.5 update.

S26 Ultra green line post.

This is the smoking gun that probably puts the claims to rest, because the S26 Ultra launched with One UI 8.5 out of the box, and there’s no way to update to a version that was already pre-installed.

It may be an honest mistake, and the person may have mistaken a restart for an update. However, the user doubled down on the “update” narrative in several replies, severely undermining the credibility of the report.

For now, we’d suggest taking this with a grain of salt. There’s no official response from Samsung at the time of this writing.

There was also chatter about the Galaxy S26 Ultra developing a green line on the screen back in March. However, the image posted then was clearly a Photoshop job. Moreover, the OP made it clear that it was just a representation of the question they had asked on Reddit.

That said, do let us know what you think of this in the comments.
