Rhode Island’s online degree path gives working nurses room to keep working
NorthEast News is following a new partnership between the Community College of Rhode Island and URI: eligible nursing students and graduates can move toward a bachelor’s degree in nursing through an online RN-to-BS pathway. The practical draw is flexibility—students can continue their jobs while completing coursework, and the schools cite lower tuition and scholarship opportunities.
The route has specific requirements. CCRI students may receive conditional admission after their first full semester, while applicants generally need an accredited nursing associate degree or diploma, a 2.6 GPA and an active U.S. nursing license. URI lists 24 core credits that may take as little as 15 months; the full degree still requires 120 credits overall. Tuition figures can change, so applicants should check the current program page and deadlines directly.
The arrangement connects Rhode Island’s community-college nursing pipeline with a public university degree. Read NorthEast News’ report for the eligibility details and links to the schools’ information: https://www.northenews.com/article.html?slug=rhode-island-ccri-uri-online-rn-to-bs-program-2026
