A long hosting term can lower the effective monthly cost, but the useful comparison is the full amount due today plus what happens at renewal. Before paying for a multi-year plan, write down these five things.
1. The actual charge today
Convert any effective monthly price into the prepaid total. If a plan is C$2.94/month effective over 36 months, the first-term charge is C$105.84 before tax. That is very different from being billed C$2.94 every month.
2. What happens at renewal
Record whether the introductory price repeats or whether renewal uses the provider's ordinary rate at that time. Put the renewal month in your calendar before the initial term ends.
3. The domain term
A domain offer can have a different term from the hosting. If a domain registration is included only for year one, record the normal renewal price and renewal date separately.
4. What you can move later
