What licensed brokers review in the EntryTrail prototype
EntryTrail is a development prototype for HTS classification review by licensed U.S. customs brokers. Its starting point is the broker's review of the evidence: the invoice wording, the proposed classification, and the cited ruling. Licensed brokers make every legal determination.
A broker begins with a supported English invoice PDF and checks the extracted article text against that document. The original PDF remains the reference for spotting omitted merchandise lines, recognition errors, and missing product attributes. Confirming the description gives the broker a defined starting point for inspecting the draft.
The classification review presents HTS candidates, reasoning, and cited CROSS rulings. Finding a citation in the retained ruling collection does not establish that the ruling applies to the goods under review. The licensed broker still needs to read and assess the source. An unresolved citation also does not prove that a ruling is absent from CBP's records.
If a broker corrects a proposal, the review records the corrected code, error type, and root cause entered by that broker. An entered license ID and timestamp can be retained with the action, but recording an ID does not verify licensure. Reviewer authentication and license verification remain unfinished.
EntryTrail is not production-ready and does not transmit entries to CBP. This describes the current prototype for a broker-led walkthrough. The licensed broker retains responsibility for the determination.
