Dartmouth’s $20 million plan brings rural care home
A new Lebanon-based initiative puts a practical question at the center of rural health care: what support do patients and family caregivers need when more care happens at home? Dartmouth Health and Geisel School of Medicine announced Dartmouth Health at Home, backed by a $20 million gift from alumnus Richard Levy. The plan combines home-based primary and palliative care with caregiver training, resource navigation and research into outcomes, costs and patient experience.
That caregiver piece matters in rural communities, where families can be left coordinating medicines, equipment and appointments across long distances. The program is still being built; NorthEast News reports the team hopes services will be operational by March 2027, with enrollment potentially beginning in January. The research will help show what works and whether the model can be sustained or adapted elsewhere.
